yo you piezsashits i just ported my mod to source sdk 2013. nothing works and i had to comment out half the code, but it's like the first source sdk 2013 mod k. open source empireshit, so ppl can port it too. either way, mod is probably dead, so there's nothing to lose. kthxbai
There are also a fuck tonne of exploits that someone with code access could do. Marcin patched dozens of them out but he said there's still quite a lot that someone with code access could do if they wanted.
There are two tools called 'diff' and 'patch'. You remove the proprietary steamworks shit from the open repository by mocking the achievements API against an Empires abstraction that attaches to either a stub or Valve's shit. Diff out Valve's shit. Patch the proprietary shit back in before each release. Plug them up as you go along. Edit: http://freegamer.blogspot.ca/2007/06/debunking-reasons-not-to-open-source.html
This is funny, a guy who registered in 2011 is now deciding to tell us to give away the source code to a game that is abysmal and will chase anyone away the moment they catch a glance. I say do it, I want to see who can fix the game better than us. I will even give them 100 dollars, directly from my savings account.
You have a point. How about you join the team and implement it? (And don't expect any code to be released, like ever. From what I've heard, a great deal of sensitive data is available to the client, so unless you plan to rewrite that too, it's not gonna happen.)
Should totally join the dev team though and like implement every suggestion I've made in the past two years.
What do you do for a living? Most of us have some menial coding experience, but I don't think there are too many people around here with formal training.
ohh no, I mean he should join and implement my ideas. I once wrote hangman in C, that's about the most code I ever wrote. I do IT infrastructure and break fix. VMware, windows, exchange, cisco and simple shit like that. call me when we need a server farm for the thousands of new players which are coming soon
2ez that article hekar posted has many valid points though. empiresdevs ought to consider them and take this project open source.
