Ok so i haven't worked on this map more than 5 minutes in the last 8 weeks, but that's normal. I've been working on maps for empires for over 6 years now, and i've always had this cycle were i could spend hundreds of hours in hammer adjusting details over and over again, followed by several months were i simply find nothing related to mapping even slightly interesting or worthwhile. Several times i really disliked mapping so much that i was certain i'd never do it again as a hobby, but every time i got back to it.

This time the extremely repetitive and tedious work on the cliffs in emp_downfall made me stop again, but i have no doubt i'll continue at some point. I did warn in my first post it would be several months at least ;)

    ---> 'box'

    me <---

    see that...outside of it...

try this. in a large area, 10-20 random spawned mines at start of map, and team switch as proposed for this map.

not like the vehicles cost them any money, and it suits the realism of the map.

which portion is horrible and offensive??

Dude really, just get defusal/have an engineer behind you/let the others go first. This horse has been beaten to death already.

I don't see any harm in a few random mines in a large area. I'd have to play a few rounds with this concept implemented to form a proper opinion on this.

Such is the problem that pre-spawned mines on a map won't be Empires mines, they'll be entity mines and thus defusal will not do shit.

    Mines are a bad idea.

Really, that doesn't seem like such a particularly bad thing to me. It'd make the map feel more D-Day like, which I think would be a good thing for a map like this.

Good? Didn't we discuss how retarded defusal works for tanks a few times? but I guess people will be like "wtf defusal, why U no work!? This game broke"

i think having random artillery would be more fun and look cooler than mines everywhere.

If you were aware roughly of where the artillery would land, then without a doubt this would be a better option. I don't know if it's possible but maybe you could build craters under the landing points so that they appear after the artillery impact.

    yes yes yes.

    much better.

craters also yes, but can you tweak the spread on the arty a bit so it's more than

"don't step/drive into that giant obvious hole" game ? ?

Make the epicenter be in a radius of ~1 crater's diameter around the crater's center?

if you make off map arty you should let it impact in open areas where players normally wouldnt go anyway. the impacts should be predictable, not in timing, but what areas might get hit. it should be nice scenery, not a hindrance in gameplay.

func_breakable with sand texture, with a displacement underneath it.
