    This

My empires folder is still in the "...\myaccount\..." folder where it has been since the first steam release.
    No folders in common required

Try seeing you have "steam.cfg" still in your general steam folder. I had the exact same error but instead for a missing content server.

If so: exit Steam, delete cfg file, then verify empires just in case.

    If not: I don't know.

    lol.

I validated everything by the way.
I even manually checked the folders.

What's the full path to your Empires folder and your Source SDK Base 2007 folder? Right-click the games, open properties, and click open game folder to get the paths being used.

Also, make sure you run Source SDK Base 2007 at least once, as said in the error prompt.

I can't find any file named steam.cfg anywhere?! I even reinstalled Empires completely (for the second time).

It's going to be in the Steam folder within Program Files. It will be near Steam.exe and a few other "Steam" files.

Nope. I started a file search (D:\Games\Steam) and it didn't find anything!

I got sick of it and fixed my bullshit by just reinstalling everything. I am just going to save a file so I can just do that every-time instead of awkward patching.

their should NOT be a steam.cfg!
AFAIR steam.cfg should only be there when you fuck around with basic steam settings (like the epic-contentserver that was used for steampires testing).

the only steam.cfg I do still have is part of Dear Ester.

In other words: You should be fine, if there is NO steam.cfg in ../Steam/

Wow... I just cleaned up my entire Empires installation and reinstalled it from scratch and I still get the very same error message. I knew that this game was pure shit wrapped in old wallpapers and tape but come one this is a new low even for you guys! I don't even know what to do anymore. I mean how can I fix this if not by reinstalling from scratch?!

Try validating the files from source sdk base 2007, after you've started it up once

You might need to run the SDK once. It unpacks the files from the GCF

    np

99% of steam related problems that others don't have are usually caused by corrupted, missing or conflicting files on your own pc. The validate function should fix such problems

I dont even have a empires folder. (in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\heyman526)
    Should I reinstall?
I also dont have the .gcf for empires. ::confused:
    EDIT:Found empires folder in steam/steamapps/common
    Copiying over to /steamapps/heyman526
EDIT #2:When I open Hammer with Empires configged and set as current game it gives me the same error.

Ignore the GCFs, they're no longer used. The next patch is in testing at the moment. Once that's done, it should come out and fix all the problems.

FFS That Errormessage people do receive, literally says it
NO CONTENT SERVER FOUND FOR APP ID 17741 (that is empires_content.gcf)

Guys, try a different Download server inside Steam, restart steam and verify your content again, maybe it helps

@the op, you wrote that you moved the empires installation to some other directory, yet you run the launcher exe from within the common folder (you can read it in the title bar).
    could this cause the trouble?

    edit:
    heres the post
