With all due respect for your years of experience in the scientific community, you wouldn't know science if it improved your world to a point with less poverty and hardship than at any other point in history. Whoops, my mistake, it has already done that. Using the process that supposedly doesn't happen in reality. How did they measure that?
dunno? maybe they asked the cultural advisor? also im with the agnostics in this thread. and i find the underlying question, the question which 42 is the answer to, very interesting. actually the single most interesting thing in the world. its also one of the major drives in humans besides feeding and fucking. its also what ultimatively lead to science religion* *i dont mean the believe of actual scientists, though as hamster said there also is dogmatism in sciences, but the broad believe in "science". put a lab coat on, call yourself researcher and your believablitiy rises - works in advertising.
Of all groups of people on the internet to discuss this with, I'd have to rank the Empires community as the one I'd have the least interest in hearing anything from.
there is - "total cultural value" - you see it in the picture above. sadly 3000BC is not on the graph so we have no comparison. my GUI is bugging somehow, can someone have a look, i have the feeling it heavily dropped the recent years ...
goddamnit people, can you guys fuck off with the actual discussion and post more hilarious pictures... fffsss
While for some instances of science, it has definitely improved life and out understanding of the universe. For others, it is debatable, or not enough time has passed to reap any benefits the studies might provide. For the rest, you get absolute bullshit like this http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/03/29/33-happiest-age-year that doesn't mean anything and will be forgotten in a few weeks.
Cmon guys one of those threads again? Imo, discussing faith is plain stupid. Also, not touching the topic, flashe, your image of adam and eve doesn't prove shit, unless the point is that medieval people were uneducated.
Also, what someone said earlier about scientific world being full of crap sometimes, it actually is true. People commit frauds and shit quite often. Do yer research before bashing someone like that.
While I agree that science isn't always accurate, I'd rather be a free thinker than a slave for faith. Biblical stories are just too fucked up to be taken seriously by anyone who take their time to evaluate what the fuck is going on rather than just accepting it as the truth.
Which is why fundamentalism is retarded, those stories are to teach lessons, not laws or history, same as any other folk tale. It doesn't matter if jesus had superpowers or not, it's what he said was what matters, which is where most theist/atheist seem to fail, since all they argue about is Jesus and his superpowers. which is why Agnosticism is the only way to go, because who cares how the world started it's the present and future we should be caring about.
Somebody writes an article that's based on a press release of a private company, who worked with a person who doesn't list a single peer-reviewed publication on her website, who conducted a survey among users of that private company's services (which I can't prove is a publicity stunt, but it sure had the effect of one) that is literally called "highly unscientific" by other people reporting on it, and that counts as science to you? No kidding. I reserve the right to bash anyone who tells people how to do their work without ever having done that work himself.
You're all uneducated shitfaces. Stop being all butthurt cuz geometry and elementary physics is "too confusing" for you.
Like I said, I didnt comment on the topic. Also, im a man of science myself. I didnt see him saying anything like that, but whatever.
