you don't need the vmf. If it ends up with anyone other than chris, it should be a dev that can stick it in with the other official map vmfs.

If you need the vmf you can just decompile it. If you can't do that, you don't deserve it.

Decompiling fucks things up. It's not worth the effort.

and what broke because of it? she should have read the readme i include in nearly all versions i released or just unzipped it straight into the empiresmod folder so everything zips out in place automatically

cars dont stop implementing cup holders just because some people cant figure out how to place a cup in a plastic ring or what purpose it serves... vicky freaking out over a file that is not needed for the map to work in a zip that automatically places everything in the correct position is again not my problem nor the reason why not to do it

    Hype update.

Map is currently performing its final compile which should take about an hour to complete both rad cycles.

Then I'm going to try to learn bspzipping.

Then if I get that right, I'll release it.

    Fingers crossed.

bspzip is the basic tool included with source for it, pakrat is like the gui compile tool version.

Although as I found out, it doesn't work anyway, because empires needs the resource file separate and my particles won't work unless I replace the particle manifest because empires does not appear to support map specific particles.

If you give me 30 bucks I'll make your map official and all your problems will go away.

Would it work if you bspzipped the smallest .pcf into your map, modded with your own particles?

You can add them to the main manifest but the method the wiki suggested to get map-specific manifests working, well, it doesn't. So I can only assume it isn't supported in empires.

The downside of adding them to the main manifest is that it makes it conflict with anyone else who modified the manifest, so you need to either manually add the lines to your file, or you have to break the particles on other maps.

I only use the particles for one thing, but it's a major landmark designed for navigation so I wouldn't want to leave them out.

I could of course bug trickster to add my particles to the official manifest and release, they are quite small files and any mapper after me can use them in their maps, so that approach would work for anyone who makes particles really, although the per-map manifest would be preferable.

Erm. in THEORY that might work, but the trouble is you can't actually merge PCFs. At least it's really hard.

You can open pcfs, you can copy and paste inside a PCF, but you can't copy from one PCF into another, least not as far as I know.

So I'd have to rebuild all the particles from scratch, which would be annoying.

The other approach, adding my manifest inside the bsp doesn't work either, because the game needs the manifest on startup to load the files.

Get your sexy arse on steam so you can test my map empty.

    Well shit.

I was relying on your heathen geography to allow me to test after the inevitable million-things-going-wrong-and-so-i-am-up-at-six-in-the-morning occured.

Although I would like to be in bed by then.

Meh I'll go do some donuts in the toxic waste for a while.

Also I was really quite impressed with this area under HDR lighting.

I basicaly managed to set up a 3 point lighting rig without entirely meaning to.
