so out of the people who are going to buy it, what are your plans for unlocks? I'm probably gonna be a 24/7 squad leader and get all the squad upgrades, and use support. Hes got the infantry pulse detector so he can hunt infantry, and he can effectively shutdown vehicles for as long as he needs to with an ammo box and emp grenades. Dont forget about those bloody awsome laser fences and sentry turrets.

Just remember, you can only equip one squad leader item at a time.

I'll prolly go anti tank engineer, go for the koenig before grabbing grenades, get squad leader beacon and work my way up medic side of assault.

After that I'll prolly go for "spec ops" recon and grab the apm along the way.

I'm going w/ assault (medic) because I have found that the Scar-11 base weopon is the best for close-mid range. It is about as acurrate as the Rapid SMG, but does more damage (more headshots). Also, the ability to revive is a huge team plus, and you can upgrade your weopons with the rocket launcher or shotgun, pretty useful for an all-around soldier. I will also go w/ support unlocks, like a sentry drone to help defend the Titan.

Is this actualy real? if so... then EA just hit hard bottom... Putting advertising in games is so freaking low... Unless you actualy make fun of them and not shove them in your face... (Like in GTA:SA there was an add for "Sprunk" with a quote below saying "Taste of things to come" during one of the early missions, that sign... gets "Vandilized" that was genuenly funny...) But this... this is just BS...

I was thinking of ACTUALY BUYING IT, but after this crap, no way in hell are they going to get my money...

    ***

At first I thought it was fake, but then after it popped up on a few forums and website, with confirmations... Thats it...

Lol, there have been ads in games long before Bf2142, I just think the monitoring is a bit shady. However, If you think about it, it's near the same as Google's ads, which give you relative ads... it's just they don't collect the information off your machine, just your current page. Still, it's rather neat.

As for in-game ads, Burnout 3+ have all had PLENTY of in-game ads, but those games still kicked ass.

As for my question, will I be seeing plenty of ads for my favorite porn and torrent sites? I wouldn't mind that :D

    Mmm, corporate spyware.

What's fun about this is that they aren't giving the consumer any resultant price breaks. They're doing it solely for whorish profits.

Not like I needed another reason not to buy it, myself, but I wonder how many people who actually know about this are still going to support EA through the purchase of it.

Fact remains, it uses my ip and a tied number to send me ads I don't care for.

I don't want anything from IGA and apparently don't have a choice in the matter. That's what bothers me.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses...

Townsend noted that "you are always going have that hardcore vocal minority" who don't want in-game ads. But he suggested that if those same people "knew the kind of painful transition that most publishers are going through right now"

He particularly commented: "If gamers still want to have a high amount of good quality titles year in and year out, there needs to be alternate revenue streams" for next-gen gaming

I think I smell bullshit... reeks BS, that my nose is falling off... EA, Quality releases?

They rarley get an original universe; they are like the movie industry, un-original, re-hashing money whores, with no original ideas..

(I agree might be a bit harsh, but it is still right)

So EA wants to have their cake and eat it too? They want the 50 bucks for the game, plus the endless revenue stream generated by the in-game ads. No thanks.

I'm not against in-game advertisements, but in that case I'd better be getting the game client for free. I'm sure EA can put together such a system very quickly: free digital downloaders see the ads, while folks who bought the game in retail do not. Unfortunately for us, the majority of consumers are sheep and will eat whatever garbage they are fed. I on the other hand, vote with my wallet.

I came back to this thread to post this, but now I see that EA has decided to do something really stupid. :D Can you spell spyware? No matter what thay say it will still gather information from your computer. :p

I'm starting see problems arising on the Gamespot BF2142 forums.
People getting kicked off for using widescreens, people who didn't receive a CD key with their purchase, Punk Buster issues, veterans program failing on people, & the mass hysteria of the ad thing.

I was deciding on what game I might buy for myself on my birthday, it was between BF2142 & Flight Simulator X. I think I'm gonna go Flight Simulator X.
