You have played a few joke maps with a weapon that should of been removed years ago. You haven't experienced what we all have that kept us playing for years. Sure it looks like that on the surface mainly due to a few idiots making dumb maps or deciding to keep the sniper rifle in the game but obviously there is something special about this game or else like what you said.. It would of been dead and abandoned.
Empires simply has the best teamwork potential of any game i've known, and when that's met, the games are more than gold...they're more than great, even. It's a little saddening, because throughout testing 2.0 every game was like that, so when you experience like it is now on the publics, it's quite far from what it could be. One out of five games is good, to get to great you may have to play for a day or two though.
Nominate maps like duststorm, cyclopean, Canyon, and when they come up in the map vote make sure to vote for them. Those maps exhibit Empires potential. Sounds like you were playing on custom maps, most custom maps are good, but there is a mapper here that likes to make joke maps and for some reason they are played a lot, and custom maps aren't as robust as the official maps (the ones distributed with the mod). But yes the game needs more props, too much maps have the canyon rocks.
well if he just wants to see maps to see how badly we need props he can just start up his own server and run around the map in spec.
I did hang out in spec mode for a while on the first map, emp_battlements4 I think it was called. Learned a lot more about the scope of the map, design too from that rather than in FP mode. I think it's a crappy thing to say that the game could be so much better etc etc but it's been in dev for over 5 years? How much longer do you honestly need? Maybe I shouldn't say that but it sounded like an excuse when I first heard it. owww got nothing done today, tomorrow is looking better.
emp_canyon emp_crossroads emp_duststorm emp_escort emp_glycencity emp_isle emp_money emp_streetsoffire emp_urbanchaos emp_arid emp_coast emp_cyclopean emp_district402 emp_mvalley emp_Slaughtered those are the official maps try speccing around in those
The way you seemed to have played emp, it's like you've only would have played surf maps on css and complained about lack of teamwork
oh whatever. i don't like the mod and it's hard to give it a second chance. like you're gonna pee if you don't get some? lol I could make them but I don't know if they'd be able to sway around like the grasses do. That's probably an animation or something. I should make a priority list of things to do so I can make em one after the other. I have class now so when i get back I'll start work on that list. get my ass organizizeied
I thought empires was shit when I first played it. I tried it a few times, thought it sucked every time. Eventually I started enjoying it, and now I've been playing it for over 2 years straight. It just takes time due to the amount of depth. If you can find someone to play with, it'll be a lot more fun. Especially if they can guide you through certain aspects of the game.
I thought it was shit specially since 1 clan(bsid) was stacking and ruining every game, but my stubbornness made me want to get good at it and eventually beat them in a scrim which I am 6-0 against them now. But I really found out how great this game is. I've paid for games that were less addicting or fun. Really the only thing its lacking is good coding and graphics. But we don't need good graphics just good coding. Yet it seems like people are only working on graphics which makes the coding seem even worse.
Cahemdue, I think the community makes the game a lot more fun for most people. I also think it's unfair to say that after 5 years it still is shit. There is no full time dev team. Also, source wasn't made to do the things that the coders have done to it. It wasn't made to have 3rd person command views, first person shooting, and tank driving in multiplayer, and all at the same time. It wasn't made to have maps at the limit of the hammer editor with the majority of the map being rendered 24/7 on most maps. The reason it's taken so long to do most of this is because the base of empires coding is mostly trying to get around these limitations, and when you change this base, those limitations come back to bite you in the ass. Again, this isn't simple reskinning a shooting game and coding objectives. Between spawning tanks, dropping buildings, and the 3rd person view for the single person, there is a lot going on that most games don't even touch. The only game I can think of that has anywhere near the level of complexity as this would be natural selection, and they developed that game for nearly 6 years iirc.
I don't want to be nasty here, but if you don't like the mod... I mean if this is only and purely to model that's cool, but... wouldn't you like to like it  If you would, then it's a good idea to try out those maps if you ever get time. Try finding the people responding to this thread when you get online and they'll make an effort to get a good game going or show you the ropes.
The game is only really fun if you have people you know playing it, otherwise it's basicaly a cheap battlefield clone.
