alright, I am on wireless and I get a lagspike every minute, apparently it's vista searching for better acces points. in XP you could simply disable "wireless zero config" and thats it, but there is no such option in Vista and it's really hard to enjoy the game like this. so help please.
yes, it has "wlan auto config(wlan svc)" instead but if I disable it I can no longer access the internet anymore.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=wireless+zero+config+vista Most of the people with the same problem were advised to disable it and use WLAN Optimizer. It is weird because Windows 7 has the same service, yet I haven't noticed any periodic lag. With a quick search, I found out that Windows 7 version does not lag, even when comparing with the same hardware.
I had the same issue, but it happened because some shit empires server forced my rates down to ridiculous levels, which meant I just sent incredibly little packets and the server expected far more from me so I just got these jibberings from time to time
Afaik, none of the main servers use that now (VIPER/main). I used to get the lagspikes, but I just formatted and it fixed itself.
Indeed, but sadly wired connection is not an option for me anymore. Wallmartgreen: I already tried both "Vista anti lag" and "wlan optimizer", none of them worked and I already said in my previous post that if I disable it I will become unable to connect to the internet. Also in registereditor I found something in wlansvc called "scan interval" it is set to "60 ea 00 00" but I'm not sure if I should change anything there. ( all three of the "interfaces" maps contain the same things)
Well, get a bandwidth monitor like netlimiter. If you have 2 monitors, that's ideal. Or you can run empires in windowed mode. Just have it running side-by-side and see if anything spikes during the time you experience the lag.
It doesn't seem Source-related as you mention your comp was pinging for local wireless routers every so often. As stated above, switching to wired connection, a different wireless network interface manager (like WLAN Optimizer, which can disable background network scans) , or Windows 7 may be your only solution. If none of these are possible, the next step is to reduce the significance of the lag spikes by modifying your network connection settings on Steam/Empires. http://www.sendspace.com/file/7h40zv I made a file for a couple of players a while back that were having awful game-play. Internet connection settings on Steam and/or network settings in-game is commonly overlooked by players. Once you have adjust your settings on Steam -> Settings -> Download, put these on your autoexec.cfg in your Empires/cfg folder. ********** rate "35000" cl_cmdrate "34" // 33tick servers only for Empires cl_interp "0" cl_interp_ratio "2" cl_smoothtime "0.075" cl_updaterate "34" // 33tick servers only for Empires fps_max "67" // Anything higher is just silly ********** The above settings should be fine for most players. If you have poor network connection, read the file and adjust accordingly.
cl_interp 0 Is that a joke? You bring net_graph 3 up, and lower cl_interp until LERP goes yellow, then raise it back to white again.
A ratio of 2 only puts it to 60 ms (which 2 is probably the minimum of the server anyway) which is in the white.
When cl_interp is zero, the server uses the equation cl_interp_ratio/cl_updaterate to calculate the lag compensation delay. You can get away with a ratio of 1 if you are on a wired connection and you never get loss. Ratio 2 is a safer value that many servers have as the minimum value anyway.
For Empires it's good to have "rate" between 30k and 50k (64 slot servers). You receive around 40kB/s in worst case but send 2-10kB/s.
