I mean identical as in "having exactly the same (binary) contents", so either these changes are not exported to the .pcf (and hence do not have any effect on the resulting particle fx), or it's the wrong file...?
(or the changes are stored elsewhere outside the tanks.pcf, but from what I know the particle editor stores everything in the same .pcf, or does it ?)

You literally looked at the binaries and compared every 1 and 0?

Seriously the change will be in two singular bytes. It was a tiny tiny change.

Yes. I used consolez haxx to compare, though.
    Code:
    > fc /b emptys_tank_particles.pcf release225_tank_particles.pcf

Maybe we can have a option to turn the particles on or off :)

    How about no.

It'd be stupidly advantageous to people with it off.

    I know right?

From the look of things, it's pretty easy to do, though.

Is it just me, or does anyone else crash more frequently with these installed rather than the default 2.25 particles?

I've been using them and the only way my game has closed was when I ragequit.

    The new particles are NICE,
the only thing i would change is:
-scaling nuke particles to 2/3 of their current size
-reduce smoke lifetime to 1/3 or less
    -replace small arty cannon particles

my fps are fine, even during a vehicle test with over 30 vehicles with arty and nukes and stuff ...

id go the other way ...
let each explosion have that cool lense effect, a nice esplosion and throw up loads of dust and dirt ...

compaired to arties and nukes, the new effects dont look so shiney, tho they are cool too.

also, in the end, both teams wouldnt see shit so its balanced ^^

Is anything lower than 80 allowed? I don't remember if this code is commented or not but in TF2 you can't use 70.

UPDATE: Just checked and canyon looks really silly.

The new particles look great, I love the new bio and HE mg effects aswell as the plasma cannon. Nukes and arty are a big change from the rest of the particles and it makes a dramatic statement when a team gets them which i think fits with what the weapons are intended for.

In terms of performance the only issue I get is severe control lag (about 1 to 1/2 second delay) whenever i am near an explosion with dust (such as std canon, mortar, he cannon and the like) yet in spite of this my fps stays at 20 ish which seems kind of odd. I run empires at 1280x720 on an integrated GPU (intel GMA HD) with bumgraveys crap hardware cfg as well as -dxlevel 81.

I'll have to try -dxlevel 70 out and see if it helps with my problem, canyon silliness or not. I seem to remember trying in in the initial 2.0 release and it not working.

Kamber, you should get an AGP or PCI-E card. A $35 card off of ebay will run Empires nicely.

1280x720 and IGP sounds like a notebook, now tell me how you want to fit a pce-e gpu in a notebook.
