actually there really wouldnt be enough experienced people to teach the new people, i guess you could say. there would be many games with absolutely no vets and only a minor number of people with any workable amount of experience
Same thing that happened with MAG. In the closed beta you could get some awesome games going on almost every round but since it released I've only played less than ten games that weren't total train wrecks. Granted it's getting a bit better lately but not by much.
It wouldn't be so bad if not for the PS3 controller. I honestly cannot stand the analogue stick placement, its a real pain to access the dpad without taking a thumb off the left stick.
new. What does it use? alloc? malloc? galloc? free? mfree? gfree? Tons of reasons to use them and still not deal with JITed code. Also, they're great if you use a cleanup label in code that you goto...easy to free up stuff and not deal with ref counting, and knowing what did or did not get alloced. I'll skip Haskell like most everyone else in the world.
It's okay, it kinda plays like a mix between Empires & Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory with a bit of C&C: Renegade, hell squad leaders, platoon leaders, & the OIC have auras that give nearby troops bonuses similar to Empires. The problem is that it is a very team oriented & most people on MAG aren't very team oriented & play the game like it's Call of Duty. MAG doesn't even use the D-pad all that much & you really don't need to worry about it unless you're playing one of the three leader roles or lack a mic. All the weapon & equipment switching is handled by the R2 & L2 buttons respectfully.
I mean in general. On the xbox 360 for example, the left stick and dpad placement allows you to use the underside of your thumb to press the dpad without ever lifting your finger off the stick. Makes it a lot easier to do things on the fly without slowing down.

Wow...other mod players actually read our forums?...and they're still sane? Maybe we should wait and see what they offer. This is, after all, only one of a bunch of new games heading for this niche (just because Dies Irae and Cold Trap started here, makes it no less of a competition). In a strange way, Nuclear Dawn attention is also Empires attention, because of course (yes, even if ranters from here weren't posting) Empires will inevitably get mentioned in comparison, just like Natural Selection gets mentioned here, and C&C Renegade. While this niche is still a niche, it probably benefits us all more to work as an oligopoly rather than trying to project a monopoly over it. Huh...
