Empires vehicles are all about customization. We can take this to the next level with interchangeable turrets that each have thier own weapon options. Turrets would receive damage without affecting the armor of the main part of the tank. Each turret would have its own weight, armor strength and turn speed. If the armor on the turret failed then the weapons would be disabled but the tank would not be destroyed and would be able to be repaired at a repair pad/engy Jeep. These turrets could be mounted on any tank chassis so long as the weight limit for said chassis is not violated. So, you could mount a heavy turret on a light tank but wouldnt be able to equip any armor due to weight. Light Turret: Fast turn speed, light weight, light armor, few weapon mounts. Open Turret: can mount level three canons, No roof, exposing driver/passenger to fire, medium rotate speed, thin armor. Rocket Rack: Several spots for rockets. Medium armor, heavy weight, fast turn speed. Medium turret: medium everything, Heavy Turret: Heavy/slow everything. Anti-inf turret: multiple MG/nade mounts. fast rotating speed, heavy weight, light armor. Etc. You get the idea.
I like the idea of more customisation. I dislike the idea of seperate turret and hull damage. Nor do I like the prospect of LTs with nukes. The problem is that every combination becomes a new tank. So just for your example, and only taking the light, medium and heavy tanks, we have 18 combinations. Whilst it's a good idea to give the illusion of far more chassis rather than the current shitty MKIIs, it would be a nightmare to balance. But I think the turret idea (not including the bit where it takes seperate damage) is a really good idea. Honestly, Megel though, you should really get into the game a bit atm, you'd probably be surprised at how much has changed gameplaywise. It'd give you a way better angle on stuff.
lawl wat does megel know about empirz lulz. Same with krenzo.. acting like they own this game in all seriousness it sounds good to me.
I like it. Make it happen! only in a play test of epic proportions will we see how not fail this might be. So the armor of the tank is based partly on the chassis and partly on the turret?
It doesn't seem to involve anything regarding an unreleased build. Why would it be in a private area to begin with?
I especially like your well tought through explaination. Different turret speeds offer many possibilitys to balance tanks.
As I said last time, what does it add? More guns = less armor already, why do we need an unneccesary additional complication to that mechanic? Possibly, if you reassigned missiles to some role other than 'cannon without gravity' then a medium tank variant based on missiles would be appropriate for each side, but other than that, I see no reason to add it. Also when the hell are you going to be close enough to specifically shoot the turret? Especially if you add that stupid 'can't shoot if you're too close' mechanic you wanted. You're essentially adding headshots for tanks, except no tank weapon is accurate enough to actually be aimed that well so it's pretty much like adding headshots for the TF2 minigun, and if I recall right, you disliked that idea didn't you mayama?
I think he is right, because you will be owned by the circle of death. Unless it is a cramped place with little room to maneuver you will be owned like an arty vs a paper LT.
Firstoff stop putting stuff out of context, second you can aim at the enemy turret. Third that is not like headshots because it doesnt do extra damage. I like the idea of giving the different tanks different turret turning speed for various reasons. I really love how everyone says oh no the slow moving turret makes the tank helpless without actually testing it... Lets say a heavy tank has a really, really slow moving turret. The light tank can outrun that. The heavy driver can also turn the tank itself so he turns faster or he turns in the opposite direction of the enemy circling tank. What I especially like is that almost everyone put any suggestion out of context like the rest of the game will not be balanced arcording to it. You just need to raise the damage of the heavy weapons so 2 shells are enough to kill a light it will scare light tanks enough to not drive close enough to "circle it".
Arguably it does because the turret will have less armour and simply stop working. Like I said, I like the idea, but I don't like the seperate damage/armour idea, nor do I like the idea of the turret taking damage. But I'm all for the turret being extra weight and stuff.
haha you say the turret has less damage, Do you have to make something up??? As long as their are no turrets that get damag / are destroyable ingame you dont know how many hits those turrets can take.
