Is there a differece?

Is there a difference between using full screen and -windowed -noborder with -h and -w being my max resolution?

 

My experiences:

With -windowed -noborder you can switch very fast from Empires to other applications. But you can't adjust the brightness. So I have to increase the brightness of my monitor for dark maps (like emp_blah).

 

every time you alt-tab out of your client your graphical processing unit has to "rebuild" what you see from scratch

if you use windowed mode, he bypasses that and just uses more graphical memory all-round to not have to rebuild it (when you click out of the window of your game it just puts it on "low priority" so it becomes very low fps etc but still keeps rendering it so when you click back in it can be continued almost emediately)

Well thanks. Since I use the alt key to move around in comm view, I sometimes hit the windows key. And since I'm running a 2ghz processor, it takes 10 minutes to unminimize. Testing, took 30 seconds :D!

 

If I'm comming and I hit the windows key, I'll get back in the game and then rip the windows key off.

No one even ever uses that stupid button...

when i use the -w -n its obviously(1680x1050 native) small and i can't read anything from it
its because empires (ob?) max res for 16:10 is a joke

As annoying the windows key can be, it also can be very helpful. I love Win + D (desktop).

Depends on your OS. As Vista unloads/simlifies GUI elements. However, if you run in windowed mode it won't do that resulting in heavy performance loss.
I think it's similar on XP, but the difference is smaller.

I don't really get you. Is it too high, too low? Why can't you read it? Just change the resolution if you need to oo

 

my left windows key is popped off (first thing i did when i got my computer) while my right is in place for the one in a milion chance that i need it for something.

Zoom, it might be that the game can't go that far, or you can't set it with -w -h. Use 1440x960 or somethin'.

 

I use windowskey + tab to bring up the animated window selecter when I'm really bored.

Also I paid like 50 quid for this keyboard so I'm not going to rip bits off.

 

as i said my native is quite high and empires highest res is 1200 x something so when i use the windowed mode its so small i can't see any details (it becomes unplayable)

W is width pixels, H is height pixels, it's not rocket science.

I c. Well, the problem is on your side. I can run the game fine in 1680x1050 (it should allow up to 2560x1600).
It might be a driver issue as I know that some modes won't appear unless you have drivers for your FTP Display installed.

meh,it's so much easier to just pop the fucker off. who needs a key that opens the start menu anyhow? at least, I leave the right side on cause I never use the right side alt or ctrl when playing games.
