Is it awesome or is it awesome? Bought soul storm off steam for 7 bucks just to play the beta. The game scales well, which makes me happy for my old graphics card. Here's a summary of DoW2 game play. There is no base building, you start with only one base. The resources works via territory control much like company of heroes and DoW1. Combat took a HUGE hint from CoH. Enemy's become suppressed, cover is either used or you lose. The way the victory system works, its not at all uncommon to be smashed the first 10 minutes, and than steamroll the enemy in a major comeback with smart tactics. All upgrades, ability, and production can be handled on the front line. Its all about assaulting, and controlling points. You will flank over and over again in order to win. Now go play it! XD
Lol. Same company, same RTS principles, different setting. Saying Soul storm is a ripoff from CoH is the same as saying Fallout 3 is a ripoff from elder scrolls IV.
Be good if they have gotten rid of base building. I don't remember building any bases in the tabletop game. And reinforcements just popping into existence on the battlefield? The only dudes I teleported onto the battlefield were Terminators. Through the warp. With unspeakable horrors clawing at their armor and whispering disturbing shit in their ears. With DoW they took a thoughtful and deep strategy game, and made it into another Starcraftian clickfest. If DoW II fixes that, I'll be a happy bunny.
I wasn't implying that. SoulStorm is a rip off if you got the last three DoW games. The Sisters are already a DoW mod, the campaign system is the same as the third one, and the air vehicles aren't very special. Actually CoH >> DoW series. DoW doesn't hold a candle to CoH unless you dream of Orks all night.
There is no base building. Its all about tactics. Your units get built from your headquarters. There is a button you can click that serves as a hotkey to your headquarters. The only teching that is done is upgrading tech levels (T1-T3), and upgrades on your units. They put the entire focus on the battlefield. Just had an AMAZING game. I was playing as Nids, my teammates were an Ork Warboss, and a Space Marine Apothecary (healer support). I chose the Hive Tyrant as my hero because he crushes everything in his path when he is upgraded. I immediately took over the middle, and than was double attacked by two marine players. My friends held the bottom and top early on, but they were pushed back by flanking from the middle. They had 400 points left, and we had only 100. We got out heavy weapons out, and with some combined firepower we captured back all three objective points and ended the game at 17 to 0. Add me up on the in game windows live thingy, name is decemberscalm.
I'd prefer if it was like the Total War games. You have points to spend on an army, and once the game begins you win or lose with what you brought to the battlefield.
Yeah. They did that with War hammer, but it turned out not so good. I'd imagine it being a cross between Total War and... I can't remember the name of the game >.< The Modern Warfare RTS game where you fight in teams of like 5v5, and you choose a squad type to use such as artillery, tanks, copters, or infantry.
