In some maps (have noticed it most frequently on urbanchaos), it is possible to get jammed between crates in such a way that when you become free again you suffer extreme damage, killing you instantly (even if you had full health). The sound this makes is the same as the sound which plays when you receive falling damage, which is what makes me think these two things are related. It is very infrequent, but extremely frustrating to sneak far behind enemy lines and be killed instantly by touching a crate in the wrong way. Back me up people, I can't be the only one...
This shit happens to me ALL THE FUCKING TIME! On all kinds of things.. I have been trying figure out what cause's it so I can report it but its so random.. I know its when you get stuck on something.. It's happened to me in the NF VF in mad/jpl's recent scrim on cyclopean(lol the match they didn't let simon demo) but it also regularly happens on the buildable wooden wall pieces on maps like escort.
It's a known bug. Time in the air is used when computing fall damage. It doesn't care how high you were. Razorbud discovered it but I don't remember if he fixed it in 2.2.
Yea... it can happen with nearly everything. I've already been killed by friendly rax, vf, armory, repairpad, commander... and some more.
It occurs as far back as in hl1, i guess it's because you're moved in a way that the game thinks you jumped, so finding the piece of the code that checks that might lead to the solution.
The most common place this occurs is the boxes surrounding the NF barracks. Jump on one of the boxes and then fall between the box and the barracks. You'll get stuck and eventually die like it was a fall death.
This happens all the time on steep surfaces. If you get caught the wrong way, you accelerate in place for like 5 seconds, then die from hitting the ground at terminal velocity >_> really annoying. This can also happen if you are laggy. If you lag on a server, and jump, it calculates you being in the air for much longer, and you take damage
It happens like once every hour or so. It would happen a lot more if i hadn't become overly cautious trying to avoid it.
The fall-speed mounts up every tick, while you're in the air(regardless of whether or not you're actually moving) untill eventually one of the sanity checks think you're travelling faster than max-speed (-3500), and suicide you , without actually reaching the ground . That part is straightforward to fix, fixes the insta-kills, and means you stay alive long enough to get unstucked, whereupon you still take some falling damage but not enough to kill you at full health. Would really like to fix the unstuck code, so it doesn't take so long, rather than just avoiding the falling damage, but haven't gotten around to that yet
Maybe just have it run the unstuck code that is used for revivee unstuckage when the sanity check kicks in. EDIT: wait nvm, your idea is better lol
No, the thing that pisses me off is that im using this glitch like always and when im playing on jpl i like suicide myself because from this habit lolol. /ontopic i hope you gonna fix this stuck bug
I used to have this problem alot but i figured out a while back you can like crouch crawl and jump and it will get you out of the unmoving fall. I think thats what it is anyway, I just do it without thinking so maybe the order is wrong, ill try to pay attention to how i get out of it tonight.
There's a god of stuck killing who smashes his holy fists on you whenever you're wedging yourself between something ever so slightly V shaped
ya just hold crouch and crawl away then you can just jump away this doesnt work in V pits though, which you get stuck in regaurdless of what game you play
i think why it happens to some people is that all of us that instictivly use crouch jump because we've been playing half-life games forever are the ones getting stuck into objects like buildings and crates, if you crouch jump when your uncrouched you seem to get stuck in the building, which im guessing why crouch unsticks you.
