Again, RA, from tests we did a while ago, Firefox and IE can be made to eat memory at about the same speed. Quit backtracking on things you already know.
Nope - I've been poking since then, and when using flash apps, it holds about even - but that is not the fault of firefox - that is the fault of the flash player. In general browsing, Opera and IE win.
Usability wise, I agree wholeheartedly - but its memory management is horrific. I'm anxious to see what IE8 is like, esp since it is going to adhere to specs (it is currently passing ACID2, I think)..but then again I'm speaking from a point of view where I have 4 GB of RAM to allow FF to roam free...
Currently my Firefox eats more memory than Outpost Pro which also is on my scale massive memory eater. Currently FF uses 86MBs whereas Outpost "only" 68MBs compered to it. So currently I have around 437MBs free of 1GB.
I have around 77mb of firefox sexing my ram to death. Steam comes in 2nd at 55, and aim6 ties with svchost for 3rd, at 39.
My FF uses around 110MBs of RAM after a while's use, usually less on average. Though, the history takes ages to open, mostly because the last time I cleared it was when I installed the program years ago. But despite its flaws, I love it. It has Fox in the name, appealing to the furry in me, and Fire as well, appealing to the Pryo in me, and together it's named FireFox, which combines my love of burning furries with capital letters in the middle of words. And it's got some plugins I havent seen anywhere, and it... works most of the time. IE just doesnt feel right, and Opera lacks a wiki search toolbar integrated into the program. Yay!
You're all pansies. Pooftas. My FF2 install ALWAYS was above 300 MB. But then again I'd have 25 tabs open. In FF3 right now I have 20 tabs open at only 110 MB of use. FF3 is my hero.
Realize I had each one open with a great deal of use on it - every single tab had a fair amount of "history" I could go back into, so it was all cached. Simply opening 25 tabs will not replicate what I saw. Yep, in beta form. I'm using it instead of FF2. Its RAM usage won't go above 150 MB working set for me, and that's with me using it like I used FF2. And it allows the saving of tabs and their history like Opera does, so that when you start FF3, it has the same tabs open that you had opened when you closed FF3 last (I know there was an extension to do that to FF2.)
