BTW I think that you said that SSE2 is also required by Empires.

Yeah I remember that somewhere, something about it not needing that, but it was asking for it anyway.

but I ran it on my old socket A 3200+ and that did not have SSE2 as far as I can remember..... I remember the new versions of adope premier would not install saying something about SSE2.

Ok that must be it, well I was working on upgrading his computer anyways

Will inform him of the bad news, yet good news, as he will get a newer system.

    Thanks for the help.

Ah, I used to be able to run Empires though. Versions before 2.0, and my CPU is 1.4Ghz AMD Athlon, MMX 3Dnow thingy.

Played BG2 and Eternal silence, both work fine, so still having troubles with this. I'll do a fresh install of Half Life 2, see if that makes a difference

The only fix is for me to compile a new dll with SSE turned off.

Will that decrease performance even more than this patch did krenzo?

Tell me how you measured a decrease in performance with the patch.

    okay :D
I noticed a huge fps decrease so my first thought was that it was my drivers.
I reinstalled them and there was absolutely no change.
Then I thought it could be windows. So I reinstalled windows.. installed empires and the drivers and tried again.
    Nothing changed.
So I now run empires at lower fps @ 1280x1024 and lowest settings compared to the 1280x1024 @ 16x QSAA and 8x ani.

also yesterday I turned on cl_showfps 2 on a full server which shows minimum and maximum fps.
Shocking surprise: minimum 1 maximum 90

PS. In a week I will have my new cpu which hopefully will catch up with my graphics card.
This aside such a huge increase in req shouldn't be necessary.
Also beside the point above. People with an 6600 do better at fps then I do with my 8800 which really should not be the case

*Edit* right :D I forgot the measure part..
I measure this with the cl_showfps and I mostly had net_graph turned on (before this went all screwy)

    *Edit2*
Knowing that my cpu seriously limits my graphics card, my guess is that this patch put a lot of strain on my 3200+.

Krenzo changed limit of particles on the screen. I don't remember if there were any more changes that could change performance.

Caelo: you don't use min and max for anything. Get mean, std dev and so on. ;)

It comes in handy to get a general idea of what could be affecting my fps drops, because the showbudget is listed as a cheat.

Also I'm not sure but I don't think thsoe particles are cpu rendered right?

Record a demo. Then play it back and turn cheats on.

ok today I got a temporary cpu untill I get some more money..
    so instead of a 3200+ I now have a 3800+...

My fps went up pretty good :) I can now max out on everything (16xAA and ani @ 1280x1024) and still have a decent framerate of around 30

Anyways it seems empires got a lot more cpu intensive (at least in my case)

    Ahem...

You could try asking Krenzo really really nicely for server and client dlls with SSE turned off.

I added optimization to improve performance.

Well, if there is not easy/quick way to do it, then fine. I'll manage without empires (somehow)
