Default Empires 2.21 Released

Empires 2.21 is released, with quite a few small additions, such as muzzleflashes, bullet shell ejection, and a whole host of bugfixes, including Dig-In correctly working again, Repair station repairing left armor, and a possible fix for the dreaded commander crash.

Additionally, 2.21 features a brand new stat tracking interface. Currently, 2.21 only tracks team wins/losses, but, it's something we will be adding to in the future, adding more trackable stats, and more. More info will be released soon.

You can download Empires 2.21 on the Downloads page. There is a Patch version now, and Full will be added as soon as it's uploaded.

Addendum: There is an issue with the 2.21 server, but, only a few servers are having it. If you run a server, and it crashes at startup, please send bugs to kylegar@empiresmod.com. The Server and Client files are back up.

We have traced the issue with the servers to the stats interface, and are working on a fix. For a possible work around, server admins can remove "emp_sv_stats_enabled" and "emp_sv_stats_server" from the server.cfg. If the server continues to crash, please send the crash dumps to the above e-mail.

Update: We have discovered the cause of the fix and patched the issue. You can download the server-side hotfix here (~7 MB, Windows and Linux). The Empires 2.2 -> 2.21 Server and Client Patches have been fixed, so any further downloads are hopefully crash-free.

thanks for the update. 1 minor typo in the installer though, it says it is installing 2.2 not 2.21.

Means: 4 plates TOTAL (1 left, 1 right, 1 front, 1 rear), not 4 plates per side.

There is a minor problem with the server files in the 2.2.1 patch zip file for Linux servers...

The folder name used in the patch file is Empires rather than empires .

Case is significant for the Linux O/S.

The effect of this is that the patch when applied goes into the wrong directory heirarchy and the patch is not applied.

I worked around it easily but less experienced server ops will be either stuck moving files manually or you will need to rebundle the server patch with the "correct" folder name.

This problem does not affect Windoze servers.
