Default Scout as a sniper?

I think I know why most people think the scout is designed to be a sniper class.

Please note that the scout is 'sniping' the engineer. Might cause emp_recruits to think that this is the role of the scout.

I thought the sniper rifle being in game was kind of a clue, but that's just me.

Let's see, a long distance scoped weapon that you need to be prone to get the best accuracy with may encourage certain people to camp out and try to... what's the word... snipe people with.

what else are you going to do with a high damage, high accuracy scoped rifle... hit people with it? With that gun the scout is a sniper class, and anything else they can do can be done better by another class.

Lies! You can get hide and melee upgrade and hide in corners until a bunch of enemies run past then beat the shit out of them.

True. True. But if the scout is not supposed to be a sniper then it shouldn't be advertised as such on the official trailer.

Well it is a sniper, just you don't see a line of 10 snipers on the trailer just laying there. It's just 1. Just 1.

Sniping engineers is actually very useful. If one scout is covering an area, they can keep anyone from building something, and harass the enemies. The scouts are meant for harassment and sniping engineers while building turrets.

So are engineers. And Riflemen, and grenadiers.

In fact, they all actually stand a shot of destroying the turret too. In fact they'll be a lot better at it.

Also, ever heard of taking cover? Generally if I'm being shot at, I don't dance around with a sign saying shoot me.
